For the last five years, SBA Fellow Reinhild Raistrick has been recording and painting all the known orchids on Holy Island, Northumberland. The Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve houses ten different species, which is remarkable for such a small island. It also has the very rare endemic Epipactis sancta, thought to be one of our rarest plants in the UK.
She has spent many happy days living on the island and working ‘in the field’ to record and illustrate them.
Congratulations to Reinhild as the whole set of paintings have been acquired by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and they will become part of their permanent collection after a major exhibition of the work in Bury St Edmunds at the Guildhall from 29th April to the 4th May 2023.
