Plantae and the DLDC 2022

Our open annual exhibition was a great success, with good visitor numbers and sales. Our DLDC (distance learning diploma course) had a fantastic display there with such a high standard of work from our graduates. The students also had a guided trip to the Chelsea Physic Garden in London and then Course 17 had its graduation ceremony in the evening. Congratulations to all our students. It’s been a busy week!!

Petal Moments

Nicola Lynch Morrin SBA Fellow, has an exhibition called Petal Moments, on now until the 31st May. It is on at the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre, Dublin, Ireland. Nicola creates portraits of flowers which she sees, not as mere decoration, but as distinct personalities. Their mystery and evocative power are a secret world she strives to penetrate. Her flower portraits attempt to capture and celebrate the delicacy, transparency, and transitory effects of petal moments.  This allows the viewer to contemplate the fragility and continual beauty of life itself. Just like all art groups throughout the past eighteen months, IBA members have been kept apart by Covid19 restrictions.  However, artists everywhere are fortunate and often thrive in solitude and peace and quiet in order to allow the creative juices to flow.  Botanical artists have been even more fortunate, as they depend upon the natural world for their inspiration. And that has remained a constant throughout the lockdown periods, with the seasons reliably coming and going as always. Spring 2020 was never more eagerly anticipated right from… Read more
