Wildflowers of North America

A new book is soon to be released in October by Prestel Publishing. The book features over 250 reproductions of Mary Vaux Walcott’s botanical watercolours. Mary (1860-1940) was an American artist and naturalist, who has been called the “Audubon of Botany.” Overlooked whilst she was alive, Wild Flowers of North America is a much-needed testament to the dedication and talent of Walcott and our hope is that it will inspire a whole new generation of botanical illustrators! A new book on botanical art by artist and teacher Helen Birch is due out in January 2020 in the UK which will include a painting by SBA Fellow Fiona Wheeler. The book will be published in several languages and have approximately 100 images in the book.

New RHS book

 The Gold Medal Winners By Charlotte Brooks  The New Book from the RHS, “Botanical Illustration-The Gold medal winners”, is a superb book that contains a whole host of artwork representing some of the best Botanical illustrations since the Lindley Library began their collection. It starts with a comprehensive introduction on how the collection began and the journey through the years on how it has developed and changed and was at one point nearly lost.  As a botanical painter myself, this history and collection was extremely interesting, as it shows how illustration has moved on and yet has maintained the gravitas of its historical roots.
