It’s great to see plenty of exhibitions on at the moment to brighten these chilly days. The Birmingham Society of Botanical Artists have an upcoming exhibition at the end of October. Florilegium:a gathering of flowers

New and existing works by contemporary artists Lee Mingwei, Annalee Davis, Wendy McMurdo and Lyndsay Mann join over 40 established botanical illustrators such as SBA Fellows – Giovanni Cera, Eunike Nugroho, Sunanda Widel, Anna Suprunenko, Julia Asenbaum and Natalia Alatortseva in Florilegium: A gathering of flowers, at Inverleith House, in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Botanical artists from all over the world present detailed studies of plants, revealing how flowers can elicit cultural, historic, geographic, socio-political and scientific ideas, and inviting visitors to explore the rich diversity of Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s extensive Living Collection. Exploring Botany

‘Exploring Botany’ at the Manggha Museum for Japanese Art and Technology in Poland is an exhibition that celebrates East and West, Past and Future in Botanical Art, and runs from 4th November 2020 to 28th February 2021.The exhibition features over 30 invited contemporary botanical artists from Japan and Europe, as well as works by old masters from Japan and the western world.Congratulations to SBA Fellows Fiona Strickland, Robert McNeill, Simonetta Occhipinti and Mary Dillon who all have paintings included in the exhibition.https://www.achim-weinberg.com/ausstellungen/manggha/

FOUND IN NATURE

A wonderful exhibition of work by SBA CoPresident Gael Sellwood and SBA Fellow Helen Millar has opened in Cambridge Contemporary Art Gallery this week, and runs 3rd- 25th October. The 15th Exhibition of The Art of Botanical Illustration presented by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne has a wonderful online exhibit on right now until December the 10th. Eunike Nugroho SBA Fellow has three paintings on show, and Vicki Lee Johnson and Carolyn Murdoch, both SBA diploma graduates with distinction have one artwork each. Eunike has also been awarded an honorable mention for her painting ‘Graceful Garlic’.
