PLANTING IDEAS, an exhibition about recording flora, is at the St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery, Lymington, Hampshire, UK, 20 January – 16 March 2024.
Part of the exhibition includes some forty paintings from a newly-formed group of botanical artists who are working to compile an Archive of plants of the New Forest, particularly those threatened by climate change. The Archive will include work in a variety of styles and media from more than a dozen artists, including SBA Fellow members Ros Franklin, Christina Hart-Davies, Sally Pond and Joyce Bradbeer. Flowering plants dominate of course, but also included are associated fauna such as pollinators, and so-called ‘lower’ plants such as fungi and lichens, which the Forest is famous for. The group is fortunate to have financial support from the New Forest National Park Authority to help with framing costs, and we hope that our display may move to other venues in the Forest area when the exhibition closes
