Plantae and the DLDC 2022

Our open annual exhibition was a great success, with good visitor numbers and sales. Our DLDC (distance learning diploma course) had a fantastic display there with such a high standard of work from our graduates. The students also had a guided trip to the Chelsea Physic Garden in London and then Course 17 had its graduation ceremony in the evening.

Congratulations to all our students. It’s been a busy week!!

Nature becomes Art 2.0

“Nature becomes Art 2.0” – Botanical Art by Katja Katholing-Bloss at Museum Bayerisches Vogtland, Hof – Germany from 24 March – 07 May 2023 Katja Katholing-Bloss from Hof/Bavaria is one of the few representatives of “Botanical Art” in Germany. Since 2019 she has been a fellow member of the SBA where she currently serves on the council. As her solo exhibition at the Museum Bayerisches Vogtland, Hof in Upperfranconia in November 2020 was only accessible for a few days due to the second Corona lockdown, the time has now come for the new edition of the exhibition to take place from 24. munstead Wood

SBA Fellows can now apply for a commission in collaboration with The National Trust. The ambition is to create a Munstead Wood Florilegium to celebrate the remarkable significance of Munstead Wood’s place within our national horticultural heritage. We have been in discussions about a partnership through which several member artists could be commissioned to capture the leading garden character areas and signature plants in artwork. These images will become integral to the Munstead Wood branding and fully reflect both its unrivalled horticultural significance and considerable aesthetic beauty.

The Lindisfarne Orchids

For the last five years, SBA Fellow Reinhild Raistrick has been recording and painting all the known orchids on Holy Island, Northumberland. The Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve houses ten different species, which is remarkable for such a small island. It also has the very rare endemic Epipactis sancta, thought to be one of our rarest plants in the UK. She has spent many happy days living on the island and working ‘in the field’ to record and illustrate them.
