Tulipa tulipae 2018

The SBA’s exhibition called ‘Tulipa tulipae’ was a collaboration between the SBA, the Real Botanical Gardens in Madrid and the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas. It took place from the 20th of March to the 20th of May 2018 and was a great success.

Mainly organized by the Royal Botanical Garden (RJB-CSIC) in the Villanueva Pavilion, the exhibition showed a historical journey through the techniques of printing and drawing with images from the RJB Archive and Library which conducted us, through the botany of the tulip, to the wonderful illustrations of around fifty artists from the SBA.

This exhibition was completed with a wide variety of tulips, about 21,000 bulbs, that had been planted at the entrance of the Botanical Garden, in the Terrace of Paintings, to complete a mosaic of colours and make this magnificent event a living experience with the start of spring.
Designed for all audiences, Tulipa, tulipae – The Illustrated Tulip offered over the two months educational and outreach activities, including workshops, guided tours and live demonstrations.
