Theobroma cacao in coloured pencil and graphite.
Recent research suggests Ecuador and not México, is where the cacao pod originated. Nowadays, Ecuadorian cacao is recognized for producing 60% of the world´s finest cacao, Cacao Arriba. The cacao pods depicted are Criollo Nacional and Trinitario which fall into this designation of origin. Criollo Nacional is one of the rarest and most expensive cacao bean varieties.
