DLDC 17

The SBA Distance Learning Diploma Course held its Introductory Seminar for students of Course 17 at the Art Workers Guild in London last weekend. It is always exciting to meet the students! Course Director Simon Williams welcomed everyone, and tutors Penny Brown, Susan Hillier and Shevaun Doherty were there to demonstrate techniques and to give out useful tips on completing artwork. A big thank you to Pam Henderson, SBA secretary for organising such a great day!! Everyone went home smiling and feeling inspired!!

SBA Diploma Graduation

The Graduation Ceremony for Course 14 was held at the Art Worker’s Guild, London on the the 19th July. 40 students Graduated from Course 14 and 24 students travelled from various parts of the World to attend the evening accompanied by their family and friends. It was a very enjoyable occasion to mark the ending of a long, rewarding experience throughout the Distance Learning Diploma Course for many Graduates. 

Course 16 Application reminder

DLDC application deadline 30 November 2018 The application date for the Distance Learning Diploma Course is fast approaching. If you are inspired by botanical painting and would like the opportunity to learn the disciplines of botanical art through a wide range of course assignments, download and send in your application now. The Course covers many exciting aspects of botanical painting from initial graphite drawing, line and wash (new to Course 16), botany, plant portraits and fruit studies. It also includes assignments on working from photographs and mixed studies to open up a learner’s skill set into the commercial avenue of botanical art.

Graduation Ceremony

The Graduation Ceremony for Course 13 was held at the Art Workers Guild in London on Saturday, 19th May. Family and friends looked on proudly as Diplomas were awarded by Course Director Simon Williams. Students from all over the world enrolled on the course: the UK, Hong Kong, Sweden, Australia, South Korea, Italy, South Africa, Japan, the USA, New Zealand, Singapore, Portugal and Belgium. The Award for Excellence for the highest achievement on the course at 98.35% went to Sunanda Widel. This was the highest mark ever received on the DLDC courses since Course 1. The Diploma Portfolio Achievement for the highest marks for the three Diploma pieces also went to Sunanda Widel. Tulipomania Events

To coincide with our exhibition ‘Tulipa tulipae- the illustrated tulip’, the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid have organised a series of informative and educational activities for all ages. There are daily guided tours throughout April, talks and art workshops from SBA artists. There is also an opportunity to meet some of the artists to talk about their painting or drawing techniques, and to watch live demonstrations. This is a reminder that the application deadline is approaching. Do you want to be a botanical artist? Applications are been taken for our Distance Learning Diploma Course. Now in it’s 14th year, the SBA DLDC has helped many aspiring artists to develop their botanical art skills.
