2023 Shirley Sherwood Award

This year, the recipient of the 2023 Shirley Sherwood Award for Botanical Art is… Australian artist Beverly Allen. ⁠ Every year, Dr Shirley Sherwood presents an award of £10,000 and a dedicated space in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery to an artist who has greatly contributed to the field of contemporary botanical art. Beverly is a spectacular artist with bold and confident compositions. Full of clarity, vivid colour and stunning detail, her paintings beautifully capture the splendour of the natural world and have earned her both the RHS – Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal and the inaugural Gold Medal for Botanical Art by the New York Botanical Garden. “Plants of the Qur’ān”

Congratulations to Sue Wickison whose amazing exhibition at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery in Kew opened on Saturday. From a tiny mustard seed to the majestic date palm, the exhibition showcases paintings from the book “Plants of the Qur’ān” which is due to be released in May. Ellas ilustran botánica

We are delighted to see that the exhibition ” ” (They illustrate botany) has travelled to the beautiful location of San Sebastian in Spain, opening March 24th at Fundación Cristina Enea de San Sebastián. This exciting exhibition highlights the work of women botanical scientific illustrators from the 17th century to the present, revealing the relationships between art, science and gender. The exhibition values the number of women who have been involved in the processes of disseminating science thanks to the presentation of more than two hundred reproductions of botanical works in different formats such as drawings, engravings, photographs, sculptures, paintings and books. RI 211th Exhibition

‘Ladybirds’ and ‘Purple Rain’ are two of three watercolour and gouache paintings that Sarah Wood SBA Fellow has had selected to be shown at the RI (Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours) 211th Exhibition, held at the Mall Galleries, London. The exhibition is open from Thursday 30th March, 10am to 5pm daily, and closes on Saturday 8th April 2023 at 5pm.

Nature becomes Art 2.0

“Nature becomes Art 2.0” – Botanical Art by Katja Katholing-Bloss at Museum Bayerisches Vogtland, Hof – Germany from 24 March – 07 May 2023 Katja Katholing-Bloss from Hof/Bavaria is one of the few representatives of “Botanical Art” in Germany. Since 2019 she has been a fellow member of the SBA where she currently serves on the council. As her solo exhibition at the Museum Bayerisches Vogtland, Hof in Upperfranconia in November 2020 was only accessible for a few days due to the second Corona lockdown, the time has now come for the new edition of the exhibition to take place from 24.
