I started out as an abstract painter, creating large organic and minimalist works which were inspired by my surroundings where I grew up in Switzerland. A continued interest in the natural world and a passion to garden led to painting floral subjects and in recent years to botanical art.
Having lived and worked in Wales during the past 20 years, I draw from the never ending inspiration that this beautiful part of the world offers.
I love working in watercolour and graphite and from life in natural light. Each painting can take many weeks to complete, as I like to show the various stages of growth of the plant, which means returning to the study at different times of the year.
In 2012 after completing the SBA Distance Learning course I received a Diploma with Distinction with an additional Special Award of Excellence for the Best Diploma Work.
As an Associate Member I’ve since shown my work at their annual shows. In 2015 a combination of my Botanical and Abstract Work has been shown at the Riverfront Art Gallery in Newport; my Botanical Artwork has also been shown at Albany Gallery in Cardiff and in CardiffMADE’s Verdant Spring Exhibition in 2015 and at the Greenhill Cottage Gallery near Bath in 2014. Currently I’m painting a body of work for exhibition with the RHS while teaching Botanical Art at my studio in Newport, Wales UK.
