As a retired, Instrument Engineer / Project Manager it is my wife, a Bridal Florist for whom I have to thank for my interest and knowledge of flowers, and through a chance meeting with jeweller and silversmith Aileen Hamilton, which in consequence lead me to become captivated by the world of silversmithing that me brought to me a unique way of expressing my passion of bringing together the botanical world and the skills of the silversmith.
I work by trying to achieve some understanding and appreciation of the wonder of the natural world. Taking photos, sketching, engineering drawings, dissecting and pressing the actual plant, to growing one, to fully comprehend the challenges in creating one in silver, with as much accuracy and detail as possible, prototyping in copper to ascertain that the method, and build, allow for the piece disassembled for cleaning.
The challenge of replicating a part of the natural world and accomplishing it is what most inspires me.
