Mary Dillon is an award winning artist whose work belongs in prestigious corporate and private collections worldwide. Preferring to work in large format, along with painting the essence of a plant with its sensuality and frailty, the nuances of colour, along with light and form, permeate her work.
Having been an artist and art educator for many years, Mary decided to focus specifically on her interest in botanical art. She pursued the Diploma in Botanical Art and Illustration with the Society of Botanical Artists, graduating in May 2014 with a diploma with distinction.
Mary’s work has since been exhibited internationally. She has achieved Gold Medal and Best in Show in Botanical and Floral Art at Bloom, Dublin, 2016, and Gold and Silver Medals at Bloom, 2017.
Mary has been elected an Associate Member of the Society of Botanical Artists, and a member of the Watercolour Society of Ireland. She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists and has been the founding chair-person of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists.
In 2016, Mary was invited to speak at the first World Congress of Botanical Artists, in Pittsburgh, hosted by the American Society of Botanical Artists.
She finds teaching botanical art particularly rewarding, which gives her an opportunity to share her skills and to encourage others to see the world of plants in a new and exciting way.
