Biography

Following my graduation in Visual Communication at Brighton Polytechnic in 1977, I spent 25 years designing and illustrating magazines and books. The main subjects were plants, gardens, food and cookery. In 2006 I decided to concentrate solely on my own paintings. In 2007 my husband and I moved to Hong Kong. The exotic flowers and foliage I saw during my time here and extensive travels throughout South‐East Asia, become a focal point in my botanical paintings. I was a founder member of the Hong Kong Society of Botanical Artists.
I returned home to Tunbridge Wells in 2012 and participated in the Open Studios event in June 2013.

I love to paint plants and flowers whose shape and colour I find visually exciting, often enhanced by strong sunlight. By including the dark background often found behind these plants, I hope to retain it’s sense of place in it’s situation. I hope my paintings inspire, rather than merely inform the viewer. Most of my work is painted in watercolour with the use of ink to enhance colour and detail.
