Florence Gendre

Biography

Born into a family of artists in Lyon – France, I have always been passionate about science and nature, especially entomology and herpetology. After studying Art in Paris, at both Atelier Penninghen and Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs (ENSAD), I started my career as a freelance illustrator for advertising and press.

My rigorous and precise style has brought me to work in various industries from luxury (jewellery & cosmetics design) as well as medical or architecture visualization.
In 2016 I decided to go back to my passion for observation with botanical watercolour painting.

I love to travel and hike, it’s an opportunity for me to find thousands of inspiring things to draw and fill my sketchbooks.
Seeds, plants, roots, and other surprising and unexpected subjects appeal to me the most.
I tend to draw them oversized to illustrate them in greater detail.
Graphite pencil and watercolour are my preferred mediums of expression.
