Angie Gray

In 1990 I enrolled on various life-drawing classes experimenting with different mediums charcoal, pastel and oils. Oils were my favourite for many years and I enjoyed exploring the subjects of portrait, landscape and fantasy.

In 2006 I finally discovered watercolour and botanical painting at West Dean College with tutor Susanna Stuart-Smith.

In January 2007, whilst living in Denmark I enrolled on The Distance Learning Diploma Course with The Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) and successfully completed in 2009 passing with distinction.

In 2009 I also moved to Madeira where I am surrounded by the island’s incredibly lush nature and amazing variety of vibrant and exotic plants to paint.

I have been taught and incredibly inspired by various artists/tutors: Mariella Baldwin, Anne Marie Evans, Sandrine Maugy, Simon Williams, Jenny Jowett, Fiona Strickland, Martin Allen and Rosie Sanders.

In 2011 I was awarded Associate membership with The SBA and also invited by the famous Reid’s Hotel in Funchal to display my paintings in a private presentation to guests, by invitation only.

Full membership was awarded by The SBA in 2014.

Apart from exhibiting in local galleries, I have exhibited at The SBA London Exhibition since 2009.

The Palmengarten Botanical Exhibition, Frankfurt. Germany in 2012 and 2014.

Paintings and prints of my work can be found in Holland, Madeira, Italy, Scandinavia, Canada and the UK.
