Biography

Charlotte was born in Sweden 1957 where she trained as a Civil Engineer and worked for some years mainly with technical drawings. During this time she also went to Art school working mostly in oil on canvas and with life drawing.

Throughout her life she has developed a passionate interest in art, gardening and flowers. During the time she stayed at home with her four children she spent much time growing all their vegetables, flowers and herbs, and decorating their home using traditional painting methods such as marbling and graining. She also taught the art of traditional Swedish basket painting, using egg tempera and pigment.

When she moved to England with her family in 2000, she had the opportunity and desire to study Botanical Illustration. She studied for her Certificate of Botanical Illustration at Leicester College under Susan Graham and through her encouragement went on to exhibiting. After completing the course she applied for and was accepted as a member of the Leicestershire Society of Botanical Illustrators (LSBI). She has also participated in short-courses at The Chelsea Physic Garden with Ann-Marie Evans and Jenny Phillips as tutors.

Composition plays a very important part in her work and she always tries to find new and interesting ways of arranging the subject on the paper. Even when she is not painting she’s always on the lookout for a plant, fruit or vegetable which has a personality or movement that inspires her. Producing greeting cards using her own images is the latest addition to her work, which has proved very successful.
