Maureen has been a freelance interior and graphic designer most of her life, involved with the design of shops, exhibitions, offices and hotel refurbishments. This work involved her selecting colours and materials, anything from rough tiles for a restaurant, knobbly fabric for an office reception to shimmering silks for a luxury apartment. Now a full time artist, she is still very interested in colour and textures and is constantly experimenting with soft pastels – her favourite medium, sometimes mixing vibrant pastels with watercolour, acrylics and metallics, creating stunning effects of bold colour and texture.
During the last few years she has been exploring the effect of light and reflections on flowers, in the landscape and on the body in her life drawings.
Maureen’s flower pictures have been reproduced by publishers on cards and prints and are now sold worldwide. Many images produced for her one-woman show in New York were used for calendars, notebooks and an associated range of greetings cards in the USA. Maureen’s work is often on show at national exhibitions, London and provincial galleries, and is in many private collections in the UK and around the world. Many images have been reproduced in art books and magazines and recently she was a finalist in an International Artists Competition.
For the last few years she has organized Pastel workshops in London and Suffolk. Having moved to Ipswich recently, she will be running two- day workshops for small groups in her studio and garden during May, June and July in 2008.
